Pondforse Air Pump: Fish & Aquatic Pets

Like my other reviews, this review is given over a period of time. I received this item quickly and it was well packaged. When I saw its size I thought it would be better called the Pondhorse, but it's not as big as it looks, and certainly not as big as a koi pond pump. In fact, I was surprised when I unscrewed the case to see if it had any spares and filters (an extra filter is included). This is a double diaphragm pump with similar performance to the GHP pump, just with a thicker body for noise reduction. Like the GHP, this is a four-port pump with a four-outlet valveless plastic manifold. I would have preferred a metal manifold with valves, but not having that option I improvised with plastic T-valves and pieces of tubing. This device works as long as I don't blow the air too high because this pump is powerful enough to blow through those cheap valves. The addition of a valve manifold balances the power output - which is needed when supplying air to two direct injection tanks that can run at low capacity and two buckets of airstones that require higher air capacity. I have successfully run four medium powered buckets where the hum of the electromagnet was drowned out by a gurgle. However, a metal manifold with valves would be a good addition to this pump and will be an upgrade in the future. A really nice feature of the pump is that it has a switch so you don't have to plug or unplug it. The same switch has a dial for stepless airflow adjustment. There are divisions on the dial, but they're hard to see, so I regulate the airflow with my ear. It's also the first air pump I've had that runs all the time rather than on a timer and so far it hasn't failed. This is definitely a good choice if you want to run multiple Root Spa type DWC buckets from a single pump. I also plan to test it at 16 locations in the irrigation system I'm building.

Pros
  • Confident
Cons
  • Low Repairability
