Most modern USB hubs are designed for use with portable computers and have a short USB cable. I ordered this hub for use with my older full tower computer; My computer has a rear USB 2.0 add-on card, and this hub's 24-inch USB cable was long enough to find USB ports on a full tower (after my old hub failed). Installation was easy: I plugged the hub into a USB stick, the computer recognized the hub ("Universal USB Hub on USB 2.0 bus") and loaded the necessary driver from the Windows 2000 installation CD (I expect the driver to load even without problems on internet-connected computers with the latest operating systems.) The hub has a compact design. There are four USB 3.0 ports, each with its own ON/OFF switch and a blue LED indicating ON. There is a 24-inch cable with a USB 3.0 connector for connecting the signal. And there's a mini-USB port that allows you to connect a 5-volt, 1-3 amp power adapter (optional and not included). I only use the hub with flash drives; I turned off unused USB ports to save power and opted to let the connected computer power the hub, which keeps costs down.
