annoying to assemble but it works.

As many have said, the instructions on how to do this are useless. One of the reviewers thankfully provided excellent instructions and photos. After some thought, his/her instructions provide the information needed to assemble this device. I'll add a little more to hopefully help as well. Knowing the switch is where the right and left wires should be connected is key to assembly and functioning. First loosen the brass screws on the ends of the base of the switch itself (marked on the diagrams). A bare copper end of the cut "hot" wire is placed in the hole on the right side of the switch base. The brass screw is then tightened to hold the wire in place. The screw on the left end of the base is loosened. and the other bare copper end of the "hot" wire is placed in this hole of the switch and its brass screw is also tightened securely. There are two "gates" on either side of the base into which to place the now attached switch and ground wire. They are not mentioned as such in the diagrams but can be identified on the attached photos. On each gate, one screw is unscrewed and the other loosened to allow the gate to be opened. The cord switch and ground wire are placed in the base of the unit, the cord going to the lamp is placed in one gate, and the cord to the plug is placed in the other gate. The ground wire is pressed into a rounded groove on one side of the base. The switch is located in the appropriate position in the base. The clasps are pushed back into place and the screws on either side of the clasp are tightened to hold the wires in place. Place the spring on the long "button" of the switch. Align the holes on the top of the device to match the wires coming out of the base and push until they snap into place. Two photos are attached. Hope that helps. The switch worked fine. I hope he holds out.
