I used this with a standard 3-wire round insulated extension cord (ground, hot, neutral in a black rubber jacket). This can look ugly on a smaller diameter cable (normal visible two-wire lamp cable) because the openings in the case are large. There were no instructions, but the switch was easy to figure out, especially if you already had a chord switch installed. . Simply strip away 1 inch of the insulation covering the wiring without cutting the internal wires. Insulate the ground and neutral…

Works great on controls and displays

I purchased this item to replace a worn/broken original floor switch on a lamp. This one works better than the original! However, I agree with other reviewers who complain about the documentation - it's incomplete. If I hadn't taken the original broken switch apart to fix it, I wouldn't have a clue how to install a new one. annoying to assemble but it works.

As many have said, the instructions on how to do this are useless. One of the reviewers thankfully provided excellent instructions and photos. After some thought, his/her instructions provide the information needed to assemble this device. I'll add a little more to hopefully help as well. Knowing the switch is where the right and left wires should be connected is key to assembly and functioning. First loosen the brass screws on the ends of the base of the switch itself (marked on the diagrams).
