Not industrial but more durable than modern "Christmas tree " switches/cables

I used this with a standard 3-wire round insulated extension cord (ground, hot, neutral in a black rubber jacket). This can look ugly on a smaller diameter cable (normal visible two-wire lamp cable) because the openings in the case are large. There were no instructions, but the switch was easy to figure out, especially if you already had a chord switch installed. . Simply strip away 1 inch of the insulation covering the wiring without cutting the internal wires. Insulate the ground and neutral wires (use the online color coding chart to identify them). Cut a hot wire, stripping just 1/4 inch from the cut ends of the hot wires. Plug the cut ends into two different contact holes. Tighten screws. Straight/partial ground and neutral around a central switch containing a protected severed hot wire. Make sure the switch spring and string are properly seated in the body holes and allow the body to close over the isolated string. It is probably not suitable for industrial or workshop applications. It's more reliable than a Christmas tree footswitch, but not as convenient as the much larger foot/footswitch found in the store. This works great for breaking power to a small motor and works well for a powerful chord lamp.

Pros
  • Industrial switch
Cons
  • Questionable purchase for the elderly
