How to protect a feral kitten from the cold

One night during a cold downpour I found a cute feral kitten on my patio. The poor thing was soaked to the bone and shaking. Since he was wild, he would not allow me to take him in my arms and would not enter the house. He just crouched under my patio table, trembling and keeping a safe distance. So I prepared some food and water and put some old towels under the table for it to nest. Since then he has come to my house every night. He's not "mine" - I'm just a manager who takes care of him and makes sure he gets something to eat every night. I live in a condo on a golf course in Palm Springs, California and we have a lot of wild animals that come down from the mountains at night like coyotes, bobcats, etc. I couldn't bear to think that the kitten would be so beautiful in here winter from the cold and rain, so I bought him this little "cat house" and put it on the patio next to an outlet where I could plug it in. few minutes to assemble. The roof is the trickiest part as it's a little tricky to line up the velcro to attach the roof to the body of the house, but then again it wasn't that hard. The heating pad timer was also very easy to use. I set it to turn on at 6pm every night and turn off at 6am every morning and then plugged it into an external outlet. The cord is long enough for me to plug in and still long enough to keep the house a very safe distance from the outlet. My little wildcat found the house on the first night, but didn't dare to go inside. So I removed the plastic door flap and voila! The next night I saw him snooping around the house before finally entering. He's been using it ever since. I keep it outside on the patio by the sliding glass door to my bedroom so I can peek through the glass and see if it's there. My heart warms when I see him curled up in his small apartment, warm and cozy. :-) This outdoor Petyella cat house is amazing! The price is good. But knowing that the cat is safe and warm is priceless to me. I would recommend this house, also known as the 'kitten condo', to anyone looking for an outdoor cat shelter.
