The mount itself is fantastic, it holds my tablet, phone and any other device I put in it perfectly, the all metal construction gives me a lot of confidence that nothing will fall off. You can use the mount with or without the included ball joint adapter, the ball joint gives a lot of flexibility for holding positions but is a little tricky to tighten to keep a large tablet from sagging over time, but it's still possible that way. Overall this is a great mount, especially for the price it's going for.
