I bought these for my 1979 Ford F-150. It's a restored truck so I only drive it a few thousand miles a year and it's indoors whatever the cold/wet weather. So I don't need locks that stand up to everyday use and the weather. They are not of the highest quality but they work great and are a lot cheaper than original locks. For my application they are fine. I'm not sure how well they will hold up to everyday use and harsh weather. I had to sharpen the bottom tab a bit as it was too big to fit the hole in the door. never mind I noticed that you don't want to try to get a copy of the key. I lost one of the two keys that came with it, so I decided to shorten the key. Nobody could do this because the keys are much thinner than all regular keys and their computers wouldn't recognize it to scan the pattern to transfer it to the new key. I haven't been able to find the nearest shop that has an "old fashioned" key making machine, so I can't say for sure if they can do it or not. But even if one of them were cut off, it would most likely be too thick for the locking mechanism. In short, don't lose the key! On a positive note the locks work smoothly and efficiently do what they are designed to do so overall I am happy with my purchase. You just have to consider some of these other things when making a buying decision or not.
