Review on SR SP12 Suntour Suspension Seat Post by Matthew Aiono

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Mountain bike frame better than expected, first update (before saddle update)

I rarely write reviews. I bought this seatpost myself and this is my honest review and nobody asked me to write it etc. Choice (Things to consider): Make sure you choose the right diameter and length of seatpost (I have 27, 2). mm / 350mm). Measure the diameter of your current seat post. Also, in my experience on the two bikes I've installed it on, I'm glad I noticed the bottle cage that was mounted to the seat tube (rather than the down tube). Because of this I had to go with 350mm as opposed to my preferred 400mm option (doesn't slide all the way down as mounting bolts go through the seat tube and get in the way of the seatpost). Please note that this seat post is designed for seats with rails (7mm). Also note that the suspension mechanism limits your options in terms of lowering the saddle to the same level it was before you installed this seatpost. Installation (Easy): If you choose the right size (diameter, length), installation is as easy as peeling a pear and only takes a few minutes. Adjustment (Basic): After reading many reviews I wasn't sure what to expect from the suspension and adjustment. When the suspension seatpost arrived I just made sure the setting (preload) wasn't loose and left it at the lowest setting (most comfortable to ride). It's perfect (for riders who tried it at 165lbs and under). Specifications (excellent): I've tried mediocre local roads and am very impressed. It does what it's supposed to and "smoothes" the road. I notice this mainly because my saddle has NO springs or elastomers and therefore looks a lot like a brick on the seatpost. Before purchasing this seatpost, the suspension was unbearable. I can finally enjoy the ride (10-15 miles) home without pain. It made the ride so much more comfortable that now I have to find a solution for the front suspension as well. And also. Upgrading the seat itself became a second or third priority. I haven't tried any other type of riding (like downhill or whatever) and can't comment on the performance in these conditions. suspension, elastomers, narrow, wide, extra wide, etc.) before choosing this seatpost. But I didn't even think about it. After getting the seats and realizing that comfortable seats just don't exist (including the fact that some of them can't be fitted to my bike due to non-standard rail spacing!), I became interested in this seatpost. I'm glad I did. I bought the first one (not from Amazon) and immediately after trying the first hour decided on the second one (here on Amazon). An added benefit (flexibility): If I ever want to upgrade the bike and the bike I've just chosen doesn't come with rear suspension, I can always move that seatpost (and save money I would otherwise have to spend on a bike with rear suspension). Yes, there is a difference compared to bikes with rear (or full) suspension, but this seatpost will definitely do for me. Packaging and delivery: There are no problems with the packaging, the seatpost arrived intact and undamaged. The package arrived fairly quickly (as expected). Satisfaction: 10 out of 10 (recommend to a friend)
