I'm not sure if these reviews weren't written about any firmware updates before they were written or they just didn't understand how to do it but I assure you that you will Firmware can update - just made. You simply go to the Magnavox website, download the update, unzip the file, burn it onto a data disc and insert it. Now for the Blu-Ray player, I have to say that it's pretty good for a basic player. . I think Blu-Ray technology will continue to evolve over the years, we already have Netflix and Revain movie streaming, YouTube browsing and online capabilities. This Magnavox doesn't have most of these nifty features. So if you're particularly interested in that, you might want to look elsewhere. All in all I would say this is a great Blu-ray for beginners. The Blu-rays I watched looked absolutely amazing and I only have a 720p TV. The sound is also noticeably better. Don't spend a penny to buy movies on DVD, they are officially obsolete. Blu-ray is much better. If you can find it at a low price, definitely go for it. The picture and sound quality is excellent, it is a very simple device with a remote control that anyone can use. However, if you know for sure that you're interested in BDLive, Youtube, Netflix or any other online feature, you can probably skip that and buy something else that's almost as affordable. However, rest assured that you can play any Blu-ray movie with it. Firmware updates are available and very easy to do.
