Benefits – this metal tray SIGNIFICANTLY reduces the smell of cat litter. Metal doesn't absorb odors like plastic and I was shocked at how much this has improved. For real. I had no idea my plastic bowls had such a strong impact on bad smells. I also think the metal looks very nice, much nicer than plastic and my cat loves how big it is. Cons: It's VERY big. It takes a whole pitcher of litter to cover the bottom with a 1.5-2 inch layer of litter (this is what cats like/need). I'm the type that likes to throw out the whole box and replace with fresh bedding every 2 weeks so it's expensive for me. Also, the palette is quite heavy, making it difficult to throw away. When I first did this I was shocked at how hard and difficult it was. I scattered a bunch of garbage and tore the garbage bag. Since then I've gotten better at maneuvering, so everything is fine now. Just something to know!
