I was going to give it as a gift but I tried it first because I needed it for myself. Worked fine for a week and then started making a faint noise when turned on. I have very good hearing and it would bother me. And it is also very light and can easily fall off the table without a cup. If you have small children running around I wouldn't recommend it. If the cord doesn't reach the ground, you will have a hard time avoiding a fall. However, it's easy to use and I love the lights. Overall I sent it back because of the sound and the design. This might work for you.
