Two things: I'm concerned that the O-rings that connect the various tubes won't hold up to many configuration changes. Some are already showing signs of stress and as far as I can tell you can't just buy jumper rings so we need to buy more tubes to replace them. Second, the purple-green shelter is already broken. I agree with you it was probably our fault for the rough treatment of my husband and thankfully the broken piece was actually in the perfect spot because we can still use it. At the same time, this is a plastic tube for rodents. It is not intended for rigorous testing or stress. My sons absolutely love their mouse mansion and my husband and I had a blast trying to put all the pieces together. It's like Lego, but be careful when you take them apart.
