I have tools in all price ranges from Festool, woodpecker tools, BCT to Revain imports. so obvious if you don't use these gadgets often. You won't find products made in the USA or Germany at anywhere near these prices, it's amazing that they can produce and sell at these prices. So the premise is simple. Drill holes for dowels that can be connected to the boards. First of all, this is for connecting the edges and sides. It is possible to disassemble the jig and place the edge against the face, but not without problems, so I'll leave that to centering the holes. Using the center tool, draw a center line on the edge or end of the slab. align with the center line on the template and the holes will be very close to the center. Adjust the brass center locator until it is level, then secure with knurled brass locking knobs on each side. These handles need to be taller, use plastic pliers if you need help to avoid damaging the brass. Such centering is of course never perfect, but it doesn't have to be. The bottom line is to use the same side of the template on both sides of the boards to be joined, so any variation in center distance is not a problem. You'll need to hold the template flush with each end of the board to align the ends properly. To ensure that the edges of the board are aligned when inserting the dowels, this can usually be done by touching them. It all works very well. This requires an index pin to set the template to the next set of holes. NO such index pin included? Very strange but still, if you only want to drill 3 holes to join e.g. boards less than 5" long then that's fine, but don't expect to join long boards for gluing edges e.g. B. a table. You can always try making your own index pin or use a dowel, but you will find that these tiny variations will affect the spacing between the holes and you will get misaligned and won't forget the dowels. Experiment to find out. a large 1/2" hole on the side and a 1/2" drill bit, looks like this for the cross dowel as it lines up with the center hole. Google it if you don't know. This makes the device even more versatile. However, most cross dowels are 5/16 inch. The bracket comes with 3 sockets for 8mm holes no larger than 1/4" but not exact so you will need metric wall plugs. me? Where can you buy these extra jacks? No mention of it. Not customer-friendly here either, should be clear. And where to buy additional bushings if the 8 mm are destroyed? It happens that we all get sloppy or just plan to wear ourselves out. As such a very versatile jig that would benefit greatly from an index pin and a tool to install a drill retaining ring as this is something most beginners struggle with. The US prefers Imperial, but we tend to get products that are destined for the rest of the world. Luckily, dowels are available in these sizes if you shop around. Bottom line, this won't replace my Dowelmax as it's much more accurate and versatile, but it also costs $500 with all the necessary accessories. So apples and oranges. For basic dowelled joinery and some knowledge on your part, this is amazing value for basic joinery right out of the box.
