can you weld in External Accessories

Can it be welded? If you can go ahead, build your own flip latch. There's nothing to see here. If you can't do this, this gives the thief a second break. I don't think it's worth $80. and I won't be buying another one, but of course there's nothing wrong with the product other than that it's overpriced.
