Review on Enhanced Fluoride Filtration with Black Berkey Replacement Filters by Joseph Katipally

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Does it matter if I use all the holes in my Berkey?

I think so, and of course your decision will cost; I use all the holes in the cartridge. I have Travel Berkey and Royal. Although I travel on city water, I don't trust the sources of the many places/states I travel to. I'm also a breeder and what my dogs drink is just as important to me. I also have an artesian well. 100% drinking water comes from a well, I don't use city water and yes I also use white arsenic/fluoride filters. The water is crystal clear and removes any sulphur. Depending on where you source your water geographically, you may get different results. I can easily get two years out of these twin filters. The filters displace water, so the Royal only processes 2 gallons at a time; less than advertised for this model but I'm fine with that. I always make a 5 gallon bucket for dogs. The instructions say to change the white filters more often than the black ones, but that's not necessary. I recommend two things: 1) go to your district and get information to test your water; costs about $20. They don't check everything. 2) Then contact your local pool company and tell them you want to test the water in the pool which is usually well filled (deep or shallow/rocky); If you say it's for the pool they usually give you a free water test kit because they think they can sell you their chemicals. They check things other than the city. Compare them and you'll get a rough idea of how long you can use your filters based on how clean your water is. TRICK: About once a year, every 6 months if you live in a hot climate like Florida and your unit is stored outside under a cover like my Royal, you should remove the black cartridges and clean the outside of each cartridge with a washcloth and again deploy. This will remove any invisible holes and allow you to get an extra year of cartridge usage. Careful. If you think they've been in the tank too long, test the water again before spending the money to replace them. Can't beat the cost but I've seen too many bad reviews about trying to make it cheaper so I only use Berkey products.
