The most important upgrade for your Jeep Wrangler

After drooling over everyone else's backup camera and having trouble reversing with my dark-tinted Jeep JK at night, I started looking for a camera that might work with my stock MyGig head unit. Most solutions required multiple splicing and didn't work properly, for example without a factory plug you had to either make an RCA connection or buy a third party adapter from another vendor. It's not that it bothers me but I want to make sure all the parts work together as I don't like taking my dashboard apart multiple times. After finding this product the installation time was around 45 minutes while carefully removing the panels. I have aftermarket LED lights and the reverse light connector required a quick voltage test to ensure I had the correct wire. I didn't use the blue taps that came with the kit, opting for a quick connector tap to ensure the seal :-) it's a JEEP after all. Once this was complete I used tape liquid and water sealant on the joint. YES when it fails it's a PAIN to remove but it worked fine for my application. I could run a second cord all the way to the dash and plug it in, but I thought it best to keep the power cord as short as possible. The picture is good, NOT great like some other FHD cams. I'm half responsible for the myGig block because it's a block from 2013 and half for the camera because it's a little under 1080. By no means am I missing anyone or anything, it just outputs what looks static in the picture. I tried fitting this with pre-sealed connections and I plugged it into another mirror camera RCA jack to test and the picture was slightly better but again not as good as a new 2020 car. As for the fit , I couldn't help but be happier! The ring fits snugly between the spokes of the tire and keeps the tube from interfering with anything. Also, it is difficult for someone to remove the hose as it provides a good platform for mounting and wiring. All wiring can be routed through the factory locations and sealant/RTV may be required on the sockets just in case. Nobody can say that this is not a factory, and all installations should be like that. I followed other suggestions on the Jeep forums to download the app onto my phone and used my Bluetooth compatible Elm OBD2/CANN reader to unlock the video capabilities on the MyGig Navi device. Total cost was around $25 at the time of writing this article, I won't mention one app in place of another as some have done so due to people's BAD experience with some apps. They said they paid but never received any unlock codes in the apps. I didn't have this problem and just used the google playstore app! Now the problem is that the red wire on the front is for connecting, but since I haven't used it I cut, sealed and secured it to make sure it works. touch nothing. RCA cables are tricky to route behind myGig and can cause interference if they touch metal, I had to wrap them in tape or duct tape but I forgot when I finally assembled my dash which also makes for a solid connection (would I recommend and when I installed my friends I did). Note the image quality was identical to mine, which is why I believe it's MyGig and Cam (still great).
