Review on πŸ”ͺ Ceramic and Tungsten Carbide Knife Sharpener Tool - Restore, Polish, and Sharpen Dull Steel, Paring Chefs, and Pocket Knives - Ideal for Kitchen Knife Sharpening by Debbie Black

Revainrating 4 out of 5

A good knife sharpener that works as advertised

This TAIDEA knife sharpener is a really neat gadget built around a chunky old steel wheel sharpener that I've been using for a decade. My old one works fine but its ergonomics are terrible; Its small, hard plastic handle and tiny size make it difficult to hold securely, and its metal base tends to scratch any surface I set it on. With this sharpener from TAIDEA there are no such problems. Its thick, lightly textured handle is large enough for a firm grip and far enough from the working end that you're unlikely to cut yourself if the knife slips. Semi-soft non-slip rubber pads on the bottom prevent it from moving during use. Two sharpening slots, ceramic for very dull knives and tungsten carbide for sharpening the blade, accommodate knives of various shapes and sizes. First I used a knife to slice the cherry tomatoes; It was so blunt that it didn't even penetrate the skin of the tomato until I jabbed the sharp end inward to begin the incision. I ran the knife through a ceramic sharpener (five strokes) and then through a tungsten carbide sharpener (five more strokes). Result: Well, there wasn't much of a difference. The knife still wouldn't have cut the tomato if I hadn't stabbed the tip first. But there was a big difference when I cut the baguette. Usually the knife just ripped the bread, but after sharpening, the cuts were even and clean. The knife has definitely gotten sharper. I really like the design and quality of this sharpener, but I'm hesitant to give it five stars because of my tomato test. Maybe my knife was so dull that it took more than the recommended three to five strokes to bring it to a decent sharpness. I will keep trying after I get more tomatoes. My opinion of this sharpener is now reflected in the four-star rating.
