I'll try to be brief - I AM A GAMER (among other things) AND THE PERFORMANCE IS GREAT! BF4/BF1/Battlefront 2 work fine! The Witcher 3 got a Ryzen update and is smoking my Intel i7 4930k. Most PPLs come from Intel, and that's okay - there's a bit of a learning curve here. If you have performance problems, download (with AMD of course) AMD RYZEN MASTER, a program that will allow you to optimize or reset your processor. It is important that you set memory to LOCAL mode and leave legacy compatibility mode OFF (all CPU cores remain enabled). BOOM, this was the performance I was looking for! I play, but also edit and upload videos to Twitch/YouTube. Handbrake encoding speed is good. Twice as long as before. Initially there were problems with the motherboard, but everything worked out. I can't believe the memory speed I'm getting is almost 90GB/s in RAM in a quad channel configuration at 2400MHz. I had the same RAM speed in DDR3 on my i7 4930K and the best I saw was around 24GB/s! (both 32GB quad-core kits / G.skill tridentZ RGB vs. RipJawZ at 2400MHz). It's MASSIVE! and when you first pick it up you will notice its weight - it's HEAVY. What a beast of a processor. Always remember to get BIOS updates for x399! Especially if you use gigabytes. What can I say, I love it, it's fast and if you like video editing you'll have FUN! Adobe needs to update After Effects/PremierePro as it can only use 18 cores, but I see the software update so fast to take advantage of Ryzen. . I cool mine with a Fractal Design S36 and when I transcode the video to handbrake I average about 63.5C and that's with the stock thermal paste. I'm waiting for my new PC case to be coated in arctic silver. Some idiots say the threadripper is getting hot - utter nonsense! The thermal switching diode has a temperature of 115C! It's designed to run 24/7 on 68c - so yeah, that's cool. My idle temp is now at 32 degrees. Using HWinfo64, I can see that my entire mobo is consuming 120W in standby and around 350W on average under full workload, not counting the GPU. I have it on a Corsair RM850 and it feeds the CPU just fine (even when I overclocked for some testing). Don't leave it sitting in your case with a slow SATA SSD - give this hungry mom what she wants - a full PCIe x4 m.2 drive! It only begs for one thing and most motherboards can provide it with up to 3 of them with native ports! FYI, AMD just released a driver with full m.2 nvme RAID support (which is a bit crazy), but I think if you want 20Gb/s read/write speeds on the disk, you have it Fun! Intel BLOCKED this on their non-Xeon boards. Conclusion - I'm an Intel guy and I have a BLAST with Threadripper. It's exotic and unusual, just the way I like it. I'm not the type to like status quotas - I like free and open stuff to do my own thing with and AMD gave me just that! No more restrictions and BIG BROTHER tells me what I can and can't do. These fireworks are burning and ready to explode.
