They are not designed for frequent driving. They are optimized to balance the load and create a solid base on the ground. The only "locking" mechanism is when you rotate the leveling mechanism to push the pads to the floor (with the wheels off the floor). For an application where you rarely but definitely need to move a heavy load around your shop, this is the perfect product. We used the 2x4 to raise the bench to lighten the weight before turning on the leveling mechanism. This makes it much easier to turn when there are several hundred pounds on the wheels/brake pads. Please note that you do not adjust the height of the wheels, but the height of the "pads". Once the pads hit the ground, it stops rolling. To move the load, you must rotate the leveling mechanism again to retract the "chocks" to allow the wheels to make contact again. Highlights: This product is optimized for a fixed horizontal table/bench position, with the ability to detach the cushions for easy movement. If you don't want to level the table you can just leave the pads up and it will always stay in roll mode, but then you have to lower the pads back down so it can't roll freely on the floor (not the brake for the wheel itself).
