A handy little filter that after a few modifications worked wonders on my 1 gallon betta bowl. I had to cut the riser about 40% off because the filter head was above the waterline and didn't work properly when placed in the bowl. I also threw out the inferior material in the filter head and replaced it with the high quality carbon and fiber I already had on hand. I placed a 15 watt flat heater on the bottom, placed a filter on top and placed a small bubbler disc on top of the filter (it only covers part of the filter). I used multiple zip ties to attach the cords and tubing underwater. The whole thing was covered with a 2 pound sack of Biorb ceramic bricks to provide an optimal breeding ground for the bacteriological filter layer to develop. I've been adding Cycle Biological Booster according to package directions for a few days now and my sweet little Betta is happy as a clam! If you're willing to tweak a little, this is a great filter for your 1-gallon bowl. By the way, throw away the rat green plant that comes with the kit. It's ugly and has a scratchy texture that could hurt your little friend's delicate fins.
