Review on Bodum Bistro Coffee Double Wall Insulated by Eric Williamson

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Incredible Latte Cups!

I first bought some cheap Target ceramic latte mugs because I figured a mug was just a mug and it didn't really matter. Young. I was wrong! After spending a lot of time in the mornings making lattes in coffee shops, I kept noticing that my latte cooled down very quickly. It was incredibly annoying. I quickly found that my cheap Target mugs just radiated heat. You could feel all the heat loss on the outside of the cup. So I did a little research on the internet and saw that many users rated these Bodum mugs very highly. And although they were significantly more expensive than my cheap cups, I tried them. All I can say is this. Wow! This completely changes the rules of the game! Day and night. My lattes stay hot for an incredibly long time. Even when I've almost finished my drink and there's very little coffee left at the bottom of the cup, it's still hot. And the special thing about these cups is that you don't feel any heat radiation from the outside. Double walls keep the liquid hot for a very long time. The quality of these mugs is very good. They are made from borosilicate glass which is much stronger than glass. This is the same glass used in medicinal bottles and jars. Apparently even Pyrex used this more durable glass to make their measuring cups until they decided to cut costs and switch to cheaper glass (borosilicate glass is more expensive). But these mugs are definitely worth the extra cost! In this case you get what you pay for. However, like any glass mug, I'm sure they can break if you handle them too roughly or put them in the dishwasher next to other glasses or touch them. For this reason, I always wash by hand. Also, Bodum recommends not using metal spoons with them (prevents them from cracking/breaking). So I brought a box of plastic spoons to Costco to use. You can also find small wooden spoons on Revain which I'm sure will work as well. Again, they're still made of glass (although it's much stronger glass), and glass can break. But as long as you don't handle them too roughly and put them in the dishwasher on top of other dishes, they last a very long time. Great mugs!
