Review on Canon EF 50mm f/1.8 II Fixed Lens - Discontinued by Manufacturer by Somsak Pasalae ᠌

Revainrating 4 out of 5

I recommend to buy, the product is of high quality.

The absolute champion in terms of picture/price ratio among all autofocus lenses. The aperture, however, should still be covered a little: at 2.2-2.5, there is more sharpness with contrast, and the focus is more reliable. The speed and quality of focusing is quite acceptable, especially for stationary subjects. Ideal for cropped portraits - from close-up to waist. Full-length portraits and general plans work out worse - getting into focus becomes unstable. This, I must say, is also typical for many much more expensive lenses: manufacturers reduce the travel of the focused ring in pursuit of focusing speed, often to the detriment of accuracy. After six months of use, there are no complaints about reliability, fragility is rather simply unpleasant, but very unpleasant. The lens is highly recommended to all Canon-ists who want to see the advantages of prime lenses in their photographs and just get a great picture for little money. The difference between the kit and this piece of glass is much greater than the difference between it and professional L-optics, which weigh five times more and cost 15 times more.

Pros
  • The picture quality at a slightly covered aperture is excellent, especially compared to cheap zooms. Light.
Cons
  • Very, very flimsy. Unstable focus at medium distances.
