I love the new playmags! We received the 150 piece set for Christmas last year (2015) and the kids loved it. Unfortunately, in my opinion, the magnets weren't as strong as I thought they would be. We were able to build decent structures, but everything seemed to fall apart after getting so big. According to my kids, Nanny's Magformers were much sturdier and held together better. I considered buying another brand but price wise I just didn't want to spend the extra money for a better magnet with fewer parts. As I said, my kids (8, 6, 4 and 2 years old) still played with it all the time and didn't seem to mind. Luckily I delayed getting another set of magnets and they have come out with new stronger snap magnets. We received an updated set with 150 items, an alphabetical click in the set and a building plate. We are totally in love. The new magnets are much stronger! Even using it with our old blocks makes the old ones more durable. Clicks with the alphabet and windows make our buildings much more fun and kids love to write their names on the walls of the buildings. I can't say enough about the new set. I'm still not sure how they compare to other brands but we love what we have. This is the first toy I take with me when we have a group of moms as they are always a hit with kids of all ages. I'd love to see new kits with more shapes or building ideas in the future! Attached photos: the tower my 4 year old built and a closeup photo of the magnet. W and the green block have newer magnets, the two blocks below have older, thinner magnets. My daughter could never have built the same tower out of old blocks!
