There seems to be some confusion as to the actual impedance of these speakers. There is conflicting information as to whether it is 8 ohms or 4 ohms. But according to my measurements and direct comparisons with the Pioneer BS22 and Infinity Primus p153, the Supernova S does not draw more power from the amplifier. So I am assuming they are nominally 8 ohms. As I listened to them, I immediately noticed a midrange output that gave each voice a tunnel quality. There's also a significant increase in tweeter output (+10dB from 7kHz to 15kHz when measured close to the mic, +6dB when measured 1m away) which caused quite a bit of noise with almost any hard S-sound me clear. The snares/hi-hats are just flashy and distracting. I don't think the mids play full range, but they do have an obvious audible output up to about 9kHz. Perhaps as an attempt to combat the enormous spike in tweeter output. However, this doesn't seem to help. And if that's indeed the case, then some other design decisions need to be fixed before the output expands as much as the chosen solution was. In addition to the increased and powerful high-frequency dynamics, there is a severe lack of bass. Now I'm hearing the speakers quite far from the back walls, so that may help a little. But speakers like the Pioneer BS22 or the TEAC LS-H265 play a lot of bass in the same room without any problems. I have tested and enjoyed speakers that were weak in the bass range (Insignia NS-SP213) but instead did many other things quite well. The combination of a tweeter that is too loud and an extreme lack of bass makes this combination quite difficult to hear. In some hard-to-measure areas, I found the soundstage to be a fairly narrow, fuzzy mess. The sound is very limited at the edges of the speaker housing. There's nothing that helps envelop you in sound or make the sound seem larger than speaker placement. If you're looking for speakers in the $120 range, there's no reason to add them to your shortlist. Skip them and check out the Pioneer BS22 or Infinity Primus p153.
