Review on πŸ”΅ Noctua NF-A4x10 FLX: Premium 40x10mm Quiet Fan, 3-Pin (Brown) by Chia Hao ᠌

The product is worse than ever, disappointed with the purchase.

this product was purchased to replace a failed fan in a nas. the first thing that caught my eye was the inconsistency with the declared size. the noctua is clearly more than 10mm thick - it just didnt fit into the mount. i had to remove the rubber spacers at the corners of the fan. the fan was really quiet. however, not for long, and for a network drive, the volume is far from the most important criterion. after a few months of using this product, the nas began to periodically write to the log messages about the fan stop and the critical temperature of the hdd. this was the reason to inspect the device. the picture turned out to be rather pathetic - the fan moved slowly, with great resistance to rotation and a scratching sound, stopping immediately after turning off, periodically stopping rotating and starting again. as it was already stripped of its rubber spacer, no warranty was available and it was decided to take the sufferer apart out of interest. now the fun part. inside was a conventional plain bearing, despite the manufacturers claims of a hydrodynamic bearing. so it turns out that the manufacturer puts a product on the market at a price of about five times higher than similar devices, while the product does not differ in excessive durability. but something else is even more unpleasant - the possibility of losing drives due to banal overheating. it’s not very pleasant if a couple of large nearline disks fly due to a cheap device, with a total cost, in my case, of 20 they will fly, most likely, not immediately, but in turn, and the raid array will save the data, but you know - the sediment remains.

Pros
  • quiet
Cons
  • weak flow, low reliability, plain bearing.
