We have a 6 month old Labrador Australian Shepherd mix puppy who loves to bark at cats. We also have six cats, so you can imagine our dilemma. I started looking for non-barking solutions that didn't involve shock! A shock collar was out of the question for us! I stumbled across this product, it had good reviews (I'm always suspicious of too many good reviews) so we thought it was worth the risk for the amount of money to help alleviate her barking. The collar arrived about a week ago and we only put it on her during so-called witching hours (between 6pm and 9pm) and only when she is inside. This was our choice of how we wanted to use this collar. The first night she was a little confused as to where the sounds were coming from when she barked, we think she thought it was her shadow. She let it vibrate several times that first night, she froze and tilted her head slightly. Now, about a week later, we only put the collar on during the witching hour when she barks excessively, mostly at the cat. She has probably worn the collar for a total of 6-7 hours since we received it. Last night she barked at one of our cats in the laundry room and wouldn't stop. I grabbed a collar from the counter and put it on her. She stopped immediately after putting her collar on and the cat was still standing in front of her in the laundry room. She wore it for about 30 minutes and completely calmed down so we took it off and she was fine for the rest of the night. She quickly learned not to bark when fitted with this collar. This product has really worked for us and made us feel good as it is a more humane way to deal with her occasional excessive barking. Just to set a record, she's not an excessively barking dog day and night... She uses her barking to communicate with us outside and we love the way she does it. She's not going crazy at all. We only use it because she barks excessively when she encounters a cat in our home...which can and does happen often, especially as cats become accustomed to her. several times after she calmed down and stopped barking or whimpering, at least I couldn't hear her. We keep the sensitivity on the lowest setting so we don't know why it was triggered multiple times. I don't normally post reviews on what I buy and I buy a lot, but I just wanted to make sure this review is a fair and honest review. Let's just say if this collar stops working in a year, I'll tirelessly buy a new one! But then again, maybe I don't need that since she's already learned it by the time she stops barking! It's different for every dog and it may not work for some dogs, but it absolutely worked for our dog and it worked for us really fast! It was a great purchase!
