We have a very small room that is quite warm year round. Because of its location, this room is difficult to keep cool in the summer, but it is the warmest room in the house in the winter. We've been looking for a working ceiling fan for a long time, but the blades on the smallest ones were like a looming guillotine waiting to chop our heads off. INSTALLATION My husband had no problems installing it. It's pretty simple, but you have to understand that this fan needs to be slightly below the ceiling (in other words, not flush) to allow the blades to retract and extend. FAN This fan is brilliant. Whoever originally came up with this concept understands what it means to have a small space. It's powerful enough to keep the room cool even in low light, but when not in use it's just like a regular light. LIGHT This is a bright light. This method is only used for a bright light source when cleaning or doing small indoor jobs. Otherwise, there are enough light sources in the room for subdued lighting. This will not work with a dimmer. So when you use it with that thought, it's either light or off. The remote control for this light is easy to use. This seems to be very effective. We put it on Velcro and fix it in a secluded place in the room so that it does not get lost. It turns on the light separately, the fan separately, or both together. TIMER This is a great feature if you have a habit of leaving the lights on because you fell asleep or left the room and forgot. This allows you to turn on the light/fan and program it to turn off in time. EXTERIOR This is the best lighting we could get for this small space. Our ceilings are only 7 1/2 feet high so this fan looks like a big light most of the time. The blades are not completely removed from view. A kind of covering over the lamp when retracted between the lamp and the ceiling. It doesn't bother us at all. Clean blades and out of the way when not in use are great. CONCLUSION This lamp was a godsend for a room for which we had been looking for a solution for a long time. This light solves the problem of blades being out of sight, a bright light for cleaning or small jobs, and a great way to circulate air. The timer is also good for this room and the forgetful tenant. MY RATES ARE FIVE STARS. This fan is very interesting for us. We FINALLY have a ceiling fan that allows this tiny bedroom to free up the space of a spinning fan that hardly helps in the summer. It also helps circulate the air in winter when it gets a bit hot in there too.
