Planned Obsolescence

These disc tips work great with the Jot Pro 3 (which I bought 2 of) and the Jot Pro 4 (which is exactly the same as the 2 except for minor form factor changes, such as a few grams of weight and a lid that screws down, not magnetizes) - a comfortable feel, at least up to a point. This is the build quality of these disc tips. I was once researching potential materials that could be used to make a more durable product and I think I have two clear ideas that would greatly increase the lifespan. that they can withstand everyday use. I mention this because I realize that the current design of these disc tips leverages planned obsolescence, and based on the simplicity of my solutions and their obviousness, this appears to be intentional. I'm pretty sure it is. At $15 for two of these replacement parts, it's difficult to recommend a product regardless of the functionality of the pre-collapse tips or the pens themselves. The tips consistently fall apart at a predictable rate. I bought 2 sets of replacements plus 3 grips for a total of 7 disc heads over a 6-8 month period. The problem is that the tip itself has a thin piece of plastic that I believe is glued to most of the disc with what I believe is proprietary conductive adhesive. This glue seems to be losing its ability to maintain cohesion as I assume it is exposed to a temperature similar to that generated by the body. Once they fall apart and become unusable, the stylus completely loses its ability to control the touchscreen and I have yet to figure out how to do a practical fix. I can't imagine their cost of production being extremely high, although demand may be low, but I don't know. What I do know is that if you are considering buying an Adonit Pro pen; 1) Get Pro 3 is cheaper and the magnetic case is fancy. 2) Purchase additional nozzles for the pen. The stylus only comes with one and becomes unusable once the tip falls apart. I also liked the Adonit dash three, although the lines are wavy at times. In addition, the components of the dashboard 3 are fragile. Do not remove or unscrew any part of it as this will void any after-sales service provided by Adonit. The bottom line is that since there's no interest in bolt-on parts, the build quality feels like it will last a lot longer without having to swap out premium parts before they become unusable, and as such this is a best buy. I should mention that I mainly use the stylus for drawing and app design. This is incredibly useful for creative purposes where really necessary. From researching the variety of brands and products, I would say that nothing currently available to consumers has a very good rating. I'll try the iPhone and iPad compatible Wacom stylus myself the next time I can afford it as the company has a better reputation overall and is more focused on creative work. If you are planning to use the stylus body for a year, compare the cost of this pen to the additional cost of say 3 higher quality stylus replacement disc kits for a more accurate comparison.
