I don't know why the first two pictures are loaded sideways. I wanted a pendant light over the kitchen sink, but our old house doesn't have a junction box. I created one with my desired pendant light, an extension modified to connect to a downlight (google "how to turn a hard wired light into a plug-in" and you'll find lots of good info on how to do it) and then that one convenient switch. The length of the cord allowed me to plug it in behind our fridge and I used command cord hooks to hide the cord under the edge of my closets. The switch is essentially hidden in plain sight. The cable is nice and finished and if, like me, you use a flat plug for everything you connect, the extra amount sticking out of the wall will be minimal. Mine is hooked up behind the fridge. When pressed, the switch makes an audible click in the socket. The cable has a "finished" look - unlike the plastic coated cable - which I really liked, although it's not really visible on me. With command cord hooks I didn't have to attach/fix it to the wall but it's a great feature. They are also ideal as a table lamp.
