Unit heats water to boiling point in about 2-3 hours depending on outside temperature. However, it has a significant design flaw. The block falls apart and the glass tube falls out without warning. This happened to me twice, the second time the glass broke and I had to throw it away. The hinges that hold the "wings" in place are just plastic pins. They do not hold the device together when you fold the wings and lift the device. When you do this, the weight of the glass tube containing the water simply falls out of the ground and breaks.
