Review on Pentek STANDARD 34 PR 10 Standard Filter Housing by Tyler Parker

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Sturdy filter housing but inlet and outlet threads are a bit messy

Four of these units are installed in a row on a well water supply. Replaced by a hodgepodge of various filter housings from the previous owner. These units are well built and much heavier than many of the cases you'll find at major hardware stores. However, I used Sharkbite fittings to connect everything and also used a lot of Teflon sealant on the pipe threads. Luckily I went that route because after hooking everything up and turning the water on I had a lot of leaks from places where the fittings attach to the black filter heads. I was able to tighten the Sharkbite brass fittings deeper in the heads and eventually the leaks stopped. But it required a lot of torque, so much so that I was concerned I might damage the blocks. The threads in the case heads seemed a bit loose, just out of tolerance from the nominal 3/4" FPT. I took a star off for that, but I would definitely buy them again because they are solidly made and much better .than what I had before. The design could be improved by making the FPT fittings out of brass instead of plastic. The buyer should be prepared to use lots of teflon tape or putty and REALLY tighten the fittings to get a dry fit to guarantee!

Pros
  • Spare water filter under sink
Cons
  • Ugly packaging
