This battery grip for my Canon Rebel T3I works great. It can be used horizontally and vertically. When I use it vertically, the buttons and controls on it work great, leaving your hands on the camera where they should be rather than having to find the shutter button on the camera itself. Thanks to the double battery compartment, the batteries last much longer before they need to be replaced. And the small cover that covers the original battery compartment is stored in the battery grip, so it won't be lost when you want to take off the battery grip. As for me, I don't see why I wouldn't want to use a battery grip. It arrived very quickly. I highly recommend this article if you are looking for a battery grip for your Canon cameras.
