Review on Magnavox NB530MGX Blu Ray Manufacture Refurbished by Brian Healy

Revainrating 4 out of 5

plays Blu-Ray on DVD

I bought my Magnavox NB530MGX from my local Walmart store about three years ago. He played whatever I put in the box. I only gave it 4 stars because it doesn't have any of the Wi-Fi features that are so popular these days. For me this is a 5 star player as I don't need wifi. It loads a little slowly, but delivers an excellent picture. The reason I'm reviewing it here is because it has a special feature that I haven't found in any other Blu-ray player. I filmed my niece's wedding with an HD camera that I bought here at Revain. Due to my lack of video knowledge, the video quality was poor when compressed to DVD. Since I could create a Blu-ray file using Sony software, I did just that. I didn't have a Blu-ray burner or Blu-ray viewer on my computer, so I burned it to DVD using just 14 minutes and 3 gigabytes. Put it in the Magnavox. It took me a while to figure out what was going on, then identified it as a DVD and started playing it with no problem. I brought it to a friend with a Playstation 3, there is no joy. I took it to a friend with a Vizio Blu-ray player, no way. I don't know if it violates any standards or what, but my player decided it was a Blu-Ray format that it can read, so I saw no reason not to just play it for me. That's the kind of behavior I appreciate.

Pros
  • Very good price
Cons
  • Definitely bad product
