They are thick and interfere with wide-angle lenses.
On my webcam, the lens fits snugly on the surface of the webcam and the image is quite wide-angled. Because this coverage is so thick, the edges of the image become blurry black (cropped). I went through 3 of them to reposition it but there was no way to reposition it without trimming at least 2 corners.
