Few colors compared to other 3 brands. I've found the pencils to be hard and not easy to break so they feel a little scratchy and you have to work a lot harder to get deep coverage when used as basic colored pencils. However, I have found that they activate perfectly with some water and seem to stay alive depending on how much water you add. I added quite a bit compared to my other test brands to see how much it fades and I'm impressed with the good amount of pigment. Other reviews have detailed info on colors etc. D. I would compare them to other brands. I placed it next to the Arteza Woodless Watercolor, which only comes in a 24 piece set, but the Arteza settled much more evenly. Next, some Inktense. These are now expensive and higher-quality artist's pencils compared to other good hobbyist's pencils. They are activated by water but remain permanent after drying several times. They are really fabulous intense color. I have a set of 24 colors. And finally the Mondeluz watercolor by Koh-i-Noor. I found them to be the best of the bottom three - the 72-color set seems only $5 more expensive than this one, and I personally only have the 36-color set, and the blues and magentas lay down smooth and soft, almost like prisms. I think if you plan to use water these kingarts will work and fare much better than other brands against oppressive kids for example. But if it's going to be used for coloring, as well as watercolor just for shading, I'd choose something else. Compared to Arteza, another budget brand, the woodless watercolor comes in a hard-to-open plastic packaging that needs to be cut open to salvage the trays, but not the box. Inktense and Mondeluz come in the same beautiful cans as this set.
