Not deep enough or not wide enough

I have another sling that I used on my 6 1/2 lb Chihuahua when we were in Italy for 3 months. It worked great for taking to restaurants and trains. He could sink into it or stick his head out. I just accepted another bailout and wanted to get another dressing. Unfortunately I couldn't find another one like my first one, but this one looked similar. I'll start with the pros - the material is comfortable and double-sided. That's all I have. Now for my concerns: This one isn't that deep or wide so my chihuahua hangs out on it. I wouldn't even try to use it with him. My new dog is just over 3 pounds and it fits. The problem lies in the shape of the sling. My original is in the shape of a semicircle with straps and is about 4 inches wider in the curved area. This new one is in the shape of a tube with a small rounded area at the bottom. If this sling had a wider bottom it would be much better. I will try to photograph both together. I haven't decided yet whether to keep it or not. It just doesn't seem as secure as my old one. If I do leave it on I plan to attach an elastic velcro through the hole for more security so my dog doesn't fall out. I love dog slings and they are easy to pack up and use when needed. When your pet is with you and both hands are free, it's wonderful. I'm afraid that with this dog I have to hold the dog with one hand.
