Do not buy if you use an external amplifier!

So I read the e-brochure and thought the OnStar feature would be retained. Not right. I asked Best Buy to do the install and was told it doesn't work with external amps. I had a 5 channel very expensive PPI amp with new Infinitys in stock. I wish aftermarket companies were transparent and open and just said that this wouldn't work if you used an external amp and not the original system. I'm sure 50% of people do this when they upgrade and need steering wheel control modules. The other problem was that I called twice and was told someone would call me back during office hours which didn't happen and then on the third try I finally spoke to someone who said he was in tech, but that didn't really sound like it. . He further explained that it is possible to get it to work with an external amp, but it requires extreme tuning and sometimes doesn't work, great then just say so in your brochure. The only reason I bought this particular module was the information provided prior to purchase which sounded like OnStar could be saved for the system I was installing with Meta or Pac at $50 dollars could get by less. Even the Crux company representative agreed with me that this is a misleading and poorly written text about the system itself about what it will work with. Hey Crux, I want my $50.

Pros
  • Retains factory OnStar
Cons
  • No power
