Review on Spectre 9944 Intake Jeep Wrangler by Brian Gordon

Revainrating 3 out of 5

Decent reception but don't expect miracles.

I have a 2010 Jeep Wrangler Sahara JK with a 3.8 liter V6 engine. I bought this intake hoping to get a little bit better throttle response without really expecting a huge performance increase. The intake came together very easily, everything fitted well and was easy, just be very careful with the intake air temp sensor. I recommend putting some silicone spray on the new rubber grommet when installing the sensor in the new intake manifold, it should slide in with little effort. The first thing I noticed is that the intake noise has a much more aggressive growl on startup and under acceleration which is cool, but you can also hear the gas whistle a few times because the factory intake would muffle that noise, but this one new ones don't. . No, it won't give you more horsepower, but it seems to have slightly better throttle response, nothing to brag about or anything very flashy, if anything. The choke around it seems well made, but my biggest issue with the choke is that it doesn't offer any protection from the radiator. So if your radiator cap fails, it will most certainly spray coolant onto your air filter, and I'll suck coolant into yours. Motor, I would suggest buying one of those waterproof sock sleeves for those filters to protect them. You may also need a clamp for the vent hose that comes out the side of the pipe. My honest opinion of the intake is that it makes your engine sound angrier and you get very little improvement in throttle response, but it doesn't help with engine power or performance. I can leave it on my Jeep or not, I haven't decided yet.

Pros
  • ENHANCED ENGINE SOUND: Hear the power under the hood.
Cons
  • Can't remember
