This is just a very good tool, well made, strong, comes with a protective case and has an "old school" feel, not just any cheap tool Reliable, accurate tool, that gives pleasure. I use it to set my table saw fence and align my miter fence, and I also check my Festool MFT guide rule and any angle that needs adjustment. I always check its squareness and with this Starrett 4041-12 it's a cinch. I keep it handy and always check my settings. There's nothing better than knowing you're dead every time. I have other devices that perform the same function, including digital ones, but tin cans are something that's always there where I work and I trust it implicitly, it doesn't allow me to make mistakes. I think one of the reasons I went with it is because it just feels good in your hands, the movement is solid and smooth, and you know you can trust it. Since there is no physical lock, you must be careful when taking the measurement elsewhere. This isn't a problem as the setting is retained until you somehow press the protractor and move the setting. I don't worry about that, because there's nothing wrong with working carefully, it's actually a plus, you have to pay attention to the work. I am very happy with this item and would highly recommend it to anyone who wants to get serious about dressing in business. Don't accept a crappy plastic substitute, ignore the price, pay the person and be happy knowing you'll know the angles for years to come.
