Not accurate enough for goniometer

This product is not accurate enough for cutting. I opened the protractor and registered it in the driver's seat. That's about 0.75 degrees (yes, almost a full degree) from true 90 degrees. This will make your miter/bevel cuts look open to the naked eye (after mating with the mating piece). i give it back 60โ‚ฌ is definitely not worth it.

  • Decent performance

The weights do not match. When opened 90 degrees or .

Scale Mismatch. When opened to 90 degrees or 0 degrees on the single cut scale, the angle scale reads 45.5 degrees. That doesn't create trust. 1/2 degree can make a big difference when chamfering a joint. There is also a sticker on the box promoting "Laser Engraving New Precision", but there is nothing on the instrument that has been laser engraved or otherwise engraved. The stickers on the scale are obviously not engraved. Very disappointing as this has been a problem for years according toโ€ฆ

Great to use Aluminum

Last month (July/2017) I bought all 3 variants offered on Amazon. Both aluminum models are decals. All 3 are identical in accuracy but due to the price difference it is best to use plastic. It's hard to tell what hot, humid, wet, wet weather will ultimately do to a sticker that sits in the bed of your truck or in direct sunlight for three hours. It's great to use aluminum, throw them in your bag and not worry about durability. But I'm only thinking $70 for a sticker! ๐Ÿ‘Ž

Very poor decal and accuracy.

I just received this item today. I paid about $90 for it and it's the decal version and the decals are off. I am adding photos to participate. I will contact Starrett in the morning, they are now closed at 8pm EST. But both the protractor and the bevel cut are turned off. Approximately one degree on the miter and 2 degrees on the protractor. I placed it precisely along the edge to test the square and protractor on a piece of CNC granite. Not what I expected from Starrett as my father and greatโ€ฆ

Great tool! for protractor

I've been reading some old reviews of the 505A-12 and its smaller 7" sibling on here and was nervous about the alleged lack of accuracy due to poor sticker placement. So I contacted Starrett. To verify, as stated on their website, the scale is now laser engraved rather than using simple stickers. They assured me that the laser engraving was an improvement implemented years ago and expressed disappointment that Revain's reviews were down due to - not expiring over time and so on has led to a lot

Pros
  • Great for a small home
Cons
  • Has flaws

Robust and precise tool. Essential for wall baseboards such as chair rails and baseboards. Very nicely finished and it is worth using aluminum instead of less hard plastic. My only wish is that there are also the absolute angles of the walls on the back (which is blank). This tool only specifies degrees for a single or double (oblique) cut angle for cropping. But if you just want to use it as a wall protractor, it's not that useful. (For example if you are placing it on a 120* wall there is noโ€ฆ

Accurate and great help!

This is a great tool for your business, but that's what almost everyone says. I wanted to ensure accuracy by reading many of the less stellar (and older) reviews on the subject. The comments mainly pointed out that the decal on the degree wheel was misplaced, resulting in misalignment errors ranging from half a degree to more than a pair. I decided to buy anyway based on the updates stating that returning a bad one usually results in a better/good one. When I heard a bright "New! Laserโ€ฆ

Must Have Protractor

This is just a very good tool, well made, strong, comes with a protective case and has an "old school" feel, not just any cheap tool Reliable, accurate tool, that gives pleasure. I use it to set my table saw fence and align my miter fence, and I also check my Festool MFT guide rule and any angle that needs adjustment. I always check its squareness and with this Starrett 4041-12 it's a cinch. I keep it handy and always check my settings. There's nothing better than knowing you're dead everyโ€ฆ
