I have a 30 year old Raleigh bike with Weinmann clipless rims. I tried CST and Kenda clinchers (both made in China) and ran them no more than 15psi below their rated max pressure and both beads began to expand to the point where they broke off rims without a hook. CST just had the pipe ripped out and sure enough the pipe exploded after a 2 mile ride. The kenda was slightly better, but you could still see enough bead stretch that I was afraid it wouldn't be long before the camera came out. Pancela Pro-Tite clincher tires are rated for a maximum pressure of 95psi. When I fill it up to 75psi the bead stays in place. At 80 PSI the ball is just beginning to expand. So I've ridden them about 50 miles at 75psi and they seem fine with no sign of the bead extending past the rim and pushing out the other tube. The ride is up to par and there are no complaints at the moment. Before CST, Kenda and Pancela tires I had Forte Strada K tires, performance bike tires made in Thailand. They were rated at 95psi and I kept them at 90psi. They stopped for many, many kilometers until the bead of a tire blew and the tube burst. In hindsight, I really should have inflated them to a lower pressure, maybe 75 or 80 psi. But anyway, I can't find Forte tires anymore (wish they were cheaper) so Pancela is the next best thing for me.
