Review on πŸš— Enhanced Fuel Vapor Canister - Standard Motor Products CP3123 by Mark Young

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Installed on Kia Sorento 3.5L 2005. I had to use an adapter for the breather hose but that solved the problem.

Installed this unit on Kia Sorento 2005 3.5L. This was done to solve an issue where when refueling after about $15 at the pump ($2.09 a gallon as of today) the fuel pump would stop and the fuel would spit back out under pressure just as it came in . You can see in the photo below that the problem is related to the neck of the fuel vapor canister, which was completely clogged (photo of a clogged tank - 3rd below). It seems to be a very common problem on various Kia and Hyundai models. (Some 2003 and 2004 models have been recalled and you can get 1 free canister replacement.) The unit is slightly different from the original, but the model numbers physically marked on it are the same, the part may have been changed at some point. Look at the first photo below, the top canister is the original canister, the bottom canister is the new one. This block is not perfect for 2005 Kia Sorento 3.5L, the original breather hose was too big (1st photo below top original / bottom new). The original flush and throat hoses were in very poor condition. When I found this difference I had already removed everything as the flushing hose needed to be replaced, I took a smaller hose (I don't remember the size) and the hose is original 3/8 and put the adapter in the right middle ( 4th photo - parts / 5 -e photo with installed gearbox in line). I've also attached a photo of what the body looks like (2nd photo), just under the passenger seat. It took another 10 minutes to fit as I had to replace the hose anyway. But I'm happy to report that the issue has been resolved. For $120 when the dealer wanted to charge $800 to $1000 for the same repair.

Pros
  • Handy thing
Cons
  • So far so good
