Rural New Mexico has few cell towers. Our closest is about 6 miles past two big mountains. The nearest is ten miles away and over low hills. No signal indoors on an old LG VX8300. The court offers a bar sometimes two (refracted or reflected or magic signal). The directional antenna did not work. The landline is very noisy. A good tech at Wilson discussed the problem, and a 12-inch screen was a cheap tactic. I'm now sitting comfortably indoors with a single pole (sometimes two), with the antenna glued to a 2x6 steel base (the remains of the house's building material provide the necessary ground plane). Charge while she searches for a signal. Maybe I'm now investing in a newer phone. But first, a more attractive floor surface to match the living room decor, or a steel army helmet to carry an antenna, or maybe a repeater (big bucks!).
