I'm writing this in part to review the cable myself (spoiler alert: it works fine) and also to inform other buyers who may not understand exactly what they need. First, the cable itself is great. It is well built and more than adequate for its purpose. I've tested it with my MS Surface Pro 4 (no Surface Pro Dock - more on that below) as well as several different mini DisplayPort enabled laptops and monitors and/or TVs with HDMI. All PCs ran Windows 7 or Windows 10 and all worked more than adequately. I would have no hesitation in recommending this cable if you need the ability to easily connect an external HDMI display (monitor or TV) to your device. Now if you own a Surface Pro 4 and are using the new MS Surface Pro Dock, you can take a look and read on. I originally purchased 2 of these cables to connect 2 HDMI capable Dell monitors to my Surface Pro 4 via the dock's 2 Mini DisplayPort connectors. I found this to be an inappropriate solution for my purposes. Note that this has nothing to do with the cable (again, that's great!). The problem is that for some reason the DisplayPort connectors on the Surface Pro Dock _do not_ match the DisplayPort connectors on the Surface Pro itself. Using this cable with the tablet's onboard DP port worked great; However, using a cable with dock DP connectors (one or both at the same time) was extremely problematic. It may have detected one or both displays (or neither), external displays would disconnect intermittently (and sometimes reconnect), and I've had many flickering issues using MiniDP to HDMI cables. And on the rare occasions when I had everything plugged in, discovered, and tweaked to my liking, problems soon arose and I was back to square one. Again, this had nothing to do with the cable. I actually keep the cable for traveling and want to connect it to an HDMI enabled display or projector. But I had to switch to Active DisplayPort to DVI adapters to connect and use external displays with the Surface Pro Dock. If I'm not mistaken, this cable is a passive, not an active adapter, and it seems to make a big difference with the DP connectors on the Surface Pro Dock (although it doesn't seem to matter if you're connecting to the tablet itself, which is weird ) .). I don't know the technicalities as to why this is the case, all I can say is that if you're looking for a Surface Pro 4 tablet solution with a Surface Pro Dock to use 1 or 2 external displays alongside your tablet , in while docked, this is not the cable you are looking for. Look for an active DisplayPort to what cable (DVI/VGA/HDMI). This will work much better for you. However, if you just want the cable to plug into the Surface Pro's DisplayPort connector (rather than the dock) to have an external display, it should work just fine. Just wanted to clarify and hopefully save someone else some confusion and time. Thanks very much!
