Review on Brother SA126 Narrow Foot Black by Tara Ford

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Nice little tool but needs some skill

I've had this foot for about two years now and I have to say it's wonderful and a dream to see what it spits out! However, it does require some know-how on how to start the hem (see the Brother You Tube video which I found invaluable, not so much the included instructions) as well as a very steady footfeed to produce quality. Results. I have found that you can vary the width of the hem depending on how you start and serve it, but you are ultimately limited by the width of the forefoot otherwise it will "double over". I've used this successfully on cotton felt and polyester charmeuse. I would say the only time I really struggled with this was with curved stitches as you have to constantly adjust the feed making it difficult to keep the feed the same in the presser foot (to get consistent width results in the end) . I also need to adjust without crossing overlock stitches as it can't handle the sew through which just means I have to trim the twill short or do those narrow hem sections with the standard foot. I don't understand why you need a 5mm foot as you can adjust the size of that foot (I made some 3mm stitches) but maybe some fabrics require an even smaller stitch which is more difficult to sew. with this.

Pros
  • Nice to use
Cons
