I have three of these Moen 1222 mixers in my home, one in each shower room and after 16 years I've had to replace a couple of them. When they go, they go fast. It's not a "drop". cap... cap”, that is "cap. GUSH" and it happens without much warning. A new Moen cartridge costs about $50, but with good replacements like this available for a fraction of the price, I just don't see an option to buy OEM. I had very good luck with these aftermarket cartridges and stand by them they are easy to install but you will need a cartridge puller remove the handle and all plastic parts then remove the metal u-clip that holds the cartridge in the cradle . We put the puller, pull out the old one. Remember to remove the old rubber in the bracket with fine sandpaper or sandpaper so that the inside is smooth and the new one can sit. Lubricate the new one, put it and reassemble them.I keep a spare cartridge and remover together in a cupboard and if one runs out I can replace it in about 20 minutes.Easy, no plumbing scar iten and only $20. Get a puller and buy it - even if you don't need it now, you will. You'll save time and a lot of money by eliminating the need for a plumber, and your family will be impressed with your preparedness and repair. Capabilities. Hope that helps.
