Review on Fotodiox EZ-Pro Strip Softbox 12X56 With Speedring For Alien Bees B400, B800 & B1600 Strobe Lights by Sebastian Erik

Revainrating 3 out of 5

Good build. Design flaw, needs to modify the speedring.

Recently purchased for my Paul Buff Einstein monoblock and was surprised that the build quality was pretty good for the price. Recessed white diffuser allows for a grid**. Needs instructions, but isn't too difficult to figure out. There is one major problem that needs to be fixed, but can be fixed by purchasing a $20 + ship + screws. So this needs to be factored in the cost.Mount ProblemsUpon attaching to softbox (SB) the Einstein, the speed ring had a hint of play. A hint of weight on the opposite end of the speed ring unlatched the mounting arms and ejected the sb. Pretty much unusable. Unsure if was the Einstein (v2 shipped in 2011), I swapped out the ring from my Paul Buff PLM (Speedring / Cage Assembly $19.95) and it was much sturdier. Problem solved (i think.). You'll need 3 (M4 16mm screws from Home Depot) and 1 (M5 16mm) to replace the ones that hold the speed ring in place. You may want to replace the washers too, since the speed ring lip is not flush with the surface. The edge of the supplied speedring has a 45 degree bevel and the P. Buff does not.Other items**I have yet to take the plunge into the Pro Studio Solutions grid based on what I've read on amazon- that the one sold doesn't fit without a mod. I made my own with gorilla tape which does control some spill.LastIf you're interested in a fairly inexpensive strip box and have PLM (with center mount as described), it might be worth checking out. It's sturdy and assembles fast. Grid considerations have yet to be answered.
