Very happy with the bookshelf. For less than $100, this is a pretty good deal. The good ones: - Solid pine - Sturdy but not heavy - Stain (walnut) cool - Arrived undamaged with all the parts needed - Instructions are clear - No nails - Assembly was a moderate/easy task (I've seen a lot worse) Poor : - Large screws have square holes that require allen wrenches (much more inconvenient than using a screwdriver) - Assembly time is quite long - mainly because they only include 1 allen wrench - (Two people with wrenches is easy to shave in about 30 minutes) - And the short "L” side is too long for 360 degree rotation when you mount it on the floor (you'll see what I mean). Finger. But careful use of an electric drill fixed it (dangerous). Tips: - Use T-handle allen wrenches. Scrape at the furniture with this primitive tool, as it (will) slip out of your hand - or with a screwdriver, if you have a flexible bit screwdriver and the appropriate square bits for large screws, if they are already half screwed in, stop. Combination screws do not start to screw in "straight". But it's easy to fix. The reason they don't go straight in is because the shelves won't line up exactly with the holes when you place them above the floor (as shown in the instructions). slightly off the ground. Take the styrofoam pad from the box (thin long sheets of it) and slide it under the shelves to raise them off the floor a bit. (But don't put it under the side panels.) This should be the ideal height for aligning the holes. Shine a flashlight into the hole to be sure. - Insert the screws so that they just fit in. Use the tool to finish the job. When it comes time to attach the shelves to the other side, have your helper stand next to the opposite side and apply ankle/foot pressure while pushing with your knee to screw in the other side. Viola. They have something that looks soooo much better than that chipboard junk.
