When I first started looking for a bowl pad for our dogs, I had a lot of very specific "needs". It had to be the right color (preferably green or pink), the right size, and the right shape (bone or heart). Aesthetics aside, we really needed it to contain a mess of all that squirting, drooling canine entertainment. We've bought all kinds of rugs, from dollar stores to the more expensive ones at the general stores in our area. In the end they were all kicked out. I reluctantly bought this rug because of the many good reviews. Who cares if it isn't pink, heart-shaped? I could no longer sacrifice functionality for form. As soon as I got it I set it up and let the dog do his thing. It's only been two weeks but I'm happy to report that there is no nasty mildew smell (that you get from these fabric backed rugs). The dog food and water are finally collected (neatly on the plastic mat). Another reviewer mentioned the ease of cleaning; We can take the mat and bowls and wash them all in the shower and then we can just wipe the mat dry. This mat really suits us and I'm glad our search is over. For those who are bothered by the lack of cuteness, it really isn't that bad. The color is a neutral beige-brown, shaped like a bone. (At least I have one thing I wanted.)
